Each Copilot includes 1 Universal Adapter Plate
Copilot is a drilling alignment device, designed to help align cordless drills for accurate and effortless alignment in any application. Using an array of LEDs, Copilot senses the orientation of the drill, and guides the operator to any desired orientation. The array is highly intuitive and after only a few seconds of use, the operator does not look directly at the array, but can focus on the job at hand. This improves safety and the quality of the work. The seamless movement of the LED array is easily processed in peripheral vision and becomes a 6th sense for perfect, effortless drilling alignment.
The Copilot learning curve is fascinating. With only a single line of instruction, operators learn the physical-visual connection within seconds of holding the drill. Simply 'follow the green'. The green portion of the LED array points you towards alignment. 'All green' means you're within the alignment tolerance. The other instructions on how to change accuracy, brightness, to set a new orientation and turn the Copilot on and off are labelled on the decal.
The Copilot Retrofit is a solution to use the Copilot technology on your current cordless drill. Whether you're committed to Milwaukee, Dewalt, AEG, Flex, Skill, AEG, Hilti, Makita, Bosch, etc - you can now pair your favorite model with a Copilot Retrofit.

Copilot 2 features a strong magnetic mounting system, which both interfaces with attracting magnets on the adapter plate to hold it securely in place and also allows user to mount the copilot to anything else they'd like to align (ferromagnetic).
From Copilot 1, we found quite a few use cases where users were drilling with 1 hand. And so the 5 second delay function allows users to click this button, and then hold the drill in position to 'zero' with the 5 second delay - all single-handed. We've also simplified the housing, so where operators use the back of the copilot as a perpendicular reference to their material surface, the 5 second delay is enough time to click that button, and position the back of the Copilot against the material.
Copilot 2 only requires 2 screws to mount securely, thanks to the new Universal Adapter design, which forms a rigid platform on the back of the drill and only requires 2 screws to fasten securely. Only using 2 screws also means that the one adapter plate can work on just about any drill/driver with the 2 or 4 screw bolt pattern on the rear housing.
Copilot does work on these models, but with one caveat: the heavy impact/hammer forces can throw the sensor off providing accurate readings. It doesn't damage the sensor at all and we still find customers get a tremendous benefit from Copilot (linesman, for example). The sensor recovers in only moments and once the hammer force abates, the readings are back to perfect.
The Copilot design does require the 2 or 4 rear cover screws to mount. Most brands are already offering a variety of models with this architecture, so even if your drill doesn't work with Copilot, you won't have to change brand/batteries to upgrade to something suitable. Unfortunately, Ryobi, Festool and Bosch have not yet implemented these more modern designs!
We'll be making the mounting system open-source by way of providing those customers with native Autocad DWG, IGS or STL files on request.
Copilot mounts securely and does not impact the function of the drill. The rear cover never needs to be removed, only the 2 screws. The performance of the drill in unimpeded, providing you don't cover any dedicated cooling vents.
Copilot 2 features a universal adapter plate which mounts to any drill with 2 or 4 rear mounted cover screws. The maximum allowable distance between screw centers is 70mm or 2 3/4in. The Copilot 2 is also magnet and will stick to any steel/ferromagnetic surface.
No. Copilot operates independently using built-in visual LED guidance.
Yes. Copilot provides real-time 3D alignment feedback, making it ideal for angled drilling and those trickier cases in the workshop or on-site.
Yes. Copilot is built for professional job-site use while remaining intuitive enough for DIY users.
We've learnt a lot of lessons from Copilot 1, and we'll be focused on Copilot 2 from this point onwards, so there won't be any more Copilot 1's produced. However we will continue to keep a stock of spares, including legacy adapter plates and other components to keep Copilot 1's in service.
